Thermosyphon Solar Water Heater
|
A thermosyphon solar water heater The type described consists of a solar collector which is a very thin tank made of two flat sheets of galvanised iron. This thin tank is reinforced with steel strips and painted matt black on the side that faces the sun, so as to absorb heat. The solar collector is inclosed in a square wooded frame, the back is insulated and the front is covered in glass.

How it works
This thermosyphon solar water heater, works by solar energy, as light the solar energy passes through the glass on the front of the solar panel, and strikes the flat black surface of the solar collector, where the solar energy is absorbed as heat. This causes the solar collector to be come very hot, so heating the thin layer of water inside.
|
When water is heated it becomes less dense or lighter, when this occurs the heated water rises up inside the solar collector through the connecting pipe to the top of the insulated header tank so filling the insulated header tank with solar heated water. Cold water being more dense or heavier goes down through the pipe at the bottom of the insulated header tank to the bottom of the solar collector to be re heated by solar energy and starts rising upwards, so to complete the loop.
