A guide to building
an all copper
Thermosyphon
Solar Water Heater

Many like this have been built throughout the world.
Copper is very expensive but if you can afford the price or have access to second hand copper and have brazing equipment its worth while building.
You will need 20mm internal diameter copper pipe
This pipe must ALWAYS RISE UPWARDS.
This is to stop airlocks and for thermosyphon to work.
A sheet of copper approx 0.6 gauge
I recommend a size of 1200* 2400 mm *0.6 mm
This Size is ideal for a family of four.
Attach this sheet onto the copper pipe Brazing is best.
Make a wooden frame for the Solar Collector.
Fit a back to the frame and Insulation.
Fit the Solar Collector into frame.
Paint the Solar Collector matt BLACK.
Fit glass about 20 mm in front of the collector.
Connect the solar collector by 20 mm I D copper pipes to a 135 litre solar water header tank.
This tank is mounted 300 to 600 mm above the solar collector.
Insulate pipes and header tank.

Below are a videos on Brazing and bending copper pipe.
